Due to technologyventions, people are devoting most of their time to sitting activities such as internet, watching TV, working with computers and playing video games. The more you spend your time on these activities, the more you become overweight.

3. Eating habit – be selective
Because of the availability of food choices, the eating habits of people are greatly changed. People do not often look after the contents of foods they are eating. Some foods such as prepackaged foods, sugary drinks (soda, beverages) have high fat content which contribute to the accumulation of excess fat in the body.

You should minimize your consumption of sugary drinks and high fat contents; rather go for water or low fat milk.

Healthy Snacks

Why is it that women crave certain foods at certain times? But how much of these cravings are filling a void of something else? What are we missing in our lives that we feel the need to fill ourselves with food?

Let's face it. Food is delicious, wonderful, and makes us feel better. For example, when we do not eat … watch out! We can become a sea of emotion that we just can not seem to control. We become irritable, angry, impatient, frustrated, the list goes on. We wish food did not run our lives, but it does. We always can not wait for the next meal. We are always planning in our heads what the next meal is going to be. We find ourselves and our schedules centered around food, rather than centered around life.

You must replace your expectations with alternative snacks that are low in fat, fill you up, and are healthy to your body, mind and soul.

How many of you are ice cream obsessed? We could eat ice cream any time of day and any flavor will do. We find ourselves having a bowl of ice cream almost every night. Our waists are telling us we need to find a replacement. One can replace that craving with Italian Ices and Freezer Pops that can be found in any freezer section of the grocery store. Each item has about 75 to 100 calories, is delicious, and replace that craving. There are many low fat, no fat, light, no carb ice creams out there. One must look at the label, portion size, and realize that many of these, even though they say low carb, are loaded up with calories.

For a replacement for a salty, crunchy craving, how about some light popcorn? Or a crunchy granola bar? Take a trip to your local grocery store or health food store. There are many snack alternatives which are low in calories, possibly organic, and fulfill the salty snacking need without the calories.

Do your research. Find snacks that will fulfill your needs. Everything is okay in moderation. Do not beat yourself up if you have a bowl of regular ice cream or grab a few cookies every now and again. But make sure you have alternatives, so that you are not constantly reverting to the full calorie ice creams or the bag of potato chips.

Also, realize when you are full. Do not eat until you are stuffed. Drink sips of your beverage between each bite. Chew slowly. Eat every 3 to 4 hours. Pack or prepare yourself healthy snacks that you can munch on through the day at work, at home, or where ever you may be.

Sometimes the scale does more harm than good. Sometimes it does not. If you can handle stepping on the scale, then do it. The scale will hold you accountable. However, if you are going to obsess over the scale and let it ruin your day if you have earned a …

Healthy Diet Eating Plan – Healthy Snack Foods

We all love a yummy treat and they are hard to resist. Who does not love lashings of chocolate and ice cream?

However, if you are trying to stick to a healthy diet eating plan then you have to find healthy snack foods that will leave you feeling satisfied and you can enjoy. Remember you can still enjoy some snacks in moderation but you have to try to find alternatives that will replace those things that are definitely not good for your healthy diet eating plan.

It is important to try to keep your snack foods within the range of approximately 100 to 150 calories and not to have them in an amount that would take you over your daily calories count. If you are allowed 1600 calories per day then it is reasonable to have three meals of about 400 calories each and two to three snacks of approximately 100-150 calories each. This should keep you within a calorie count to lose weight and remain on a healthy diet eating plan.

First you can have some chocolate – a small piece approximately two squares of dark chocolate is alright as a snack maybe every couple of days. I have to say that my preference for chocolate like this is to suck it and enjoy every morsel rather than just cheering it and it being gone in a couple of seconds. The reason you want to limit the amount of chocolate you are eating is to help you break bad habits. New snacking should become part of your healthy diet eating plan.Relying to heavily on foods that are a problem for you does not change your attitude to eating.

Also remember drink about six to eight glasses of water per day especially prior to snacking. It is well known that often our brains misinterpret the feeling of being thirsty for thinking we are hungry. Being dehydrated makes you think you want something to eat. Coke is not okay. You need actual water, as your body interpret soft drink as a food and not a fluid. Besides the caffeine in cola soft drinks actually causes you to become more dehydrated. You may be sabotaging your weight loss by drinking cola based soft drinks. Remember that healthy snacks are to help you stay on your healthy diet eating plan. Do not cause yourself to fail because of soft drinks.

Another great food to snack on is celery. You can eat about 10 large stalks and it will only be about 100 calories. You can make your celery more enjoyable by eating it with hummus or peanut butter. The peanut butter has to go a long way as you should limit the amount you eat to about two tablespoons per day. The celery also gives you that comfort crunch when you bite into it. It is a snack that feels more substantial.

In my opinion the ultimate healthy snack food to keep you on your healthy diet eating plan is air popped popcorn. …

Healthy Meals For Children

Creating meals for children can be a task. Knowing what your child likes to eat and being able to offer them healthy meals based on their preferences can be difficult at times. Likewise, making sure that your child has healthy nutritious meals and snacks each day can be very easy to do if you are willing to be creative with your child's meals and offer them a variety of healthy options at meal or snack time.

One of the biggest difficulties for a parent is making sure that their children have healthy snacking options. In a world where salty chips, greasy French fries and sweet pastries are supreme it can be pretty hard to convince you child that healthy fruits and vegetables are better as snacking options. There are a number of healthy snack options that are sure to please your child. Slicing veggies such as carrots and celery and dipping them in peanut butter is a nice snack. Fresh fruit is always a great option. Keeping a little snack bag with apple slices, orange sections or bunches of grapes readily available for your child is advisable. If possible place fruit and veggies in small containers on your kitchen table for your child to eat whenever he or she wants to. Introducing your child to healthy snacking options at an early age will ensure that they understand that fruits and veggies are good and delicious to eat.

Making sure that your children eat balanced meals everyday is important. Children need a significant amount of vitamins and minerals during their younger years because they have growing bodies that demand nourishment. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it provides a significant amount of energy to begin one's day. This is especially true for school aged children. Make sure your child has a decent breakfast that includes some form of whole grain and protein source. Lunch can be difficult to monitor if you have school aged children. Many schools are trying to provide healthier school lunch options for students. If you are concerned about the quality of school lunch at your child's school you can always pack you child's lunch. When children arrive home from school make sure there are healthy snacking options in your fridge as children usually need a snack to hold them over until dinner. Dinner should be well balanced and the proportions size appropriate. Dinner should include a lean protein source, vegetables and a whole grain if possible.

In providing healthy snacks and meals it is important to remember that children will be children and letting them have the occasional sweet treat is okay. The saying everything in moderation definitely applies to letting your children indulge in goodies. If you are someplace like an amusement park obviously you child will want the traditional amusement park fair such as cotton candy, hot dogs and sodas. As a parent you must monitor what you child consumes and how much he or she consumes. An ice cream cone …

Healthy Fruit Drink

Fruit makes up a very critical component of a human beings diet. This is because it is jam-packed with nutrients and minerals that are essential for health and vitality. Fruits contain antioxidants that are essential in fighting free radicals that damage cells, cause premature aging and diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure.

Fruits also contain essential vitamins and minerals that may not be found in other food groups or from other sources. For instance, fruits contain Vitamin C (that prevents scurvy), Vitamin A (that is good for eyesight and prevents macular degeneration), potassium, folate and other minerals.

So, a healthy fruit drink is an excellent way of ensuring that you get the daily recommended amount of nutrients and minerals. This is particularly so for children who may not take time for eating the fruit itself. Having them drink a fruit drink is an easy way of getting them the nutrition that they need for their bodies to grow strong.

A major advantage of a healthy fruit drink is that they do not contain near as many calories as fruit drinks typically contain. They also will have no fat, though they have a little sugar that provides energy. Fruit also contain enzymes that aid in digestion so that the pancreas is not overworked.

There are numerous healthy fruit drinks that are easy to make and very delicious. The best fruit drinks can be categorized into fruit smoothies and fruit juices. Fruit smoothies are made of blended fruit that may be fresh or frozen (or both), yoghurt, milk or water, ice cubes and sometimes ice cream. Juice on the other hand is made by extracting the liquid from a fruit. Therefore, a fruit smoothie and a fruit juice are different because a smoothie is made using the whole fruit (even the skin if it is edible), but when juice is made, the fruit pulp is usually gotten rid off.

Between the two kinds of healthy fruit drinks, the general consensus is that the fruit smoothie is more nutritious than the fruit juice. By using the whole fruit, the smoothie contains the fiber and pulp that are necessary for healthy digestion. The fiber also ensures that the sugar found in the fruit is slowly released so that there are no sudden spikes in blood sugar levels which can cause diabetes.

Smoothies are also more versatile than fruit juices when it comes to the number of ingredients that can be added to them. You can add yogurt, spinach, protein powder and any other ingredient you choose. This is because the ingredients of your healthy fruit drink are blended together so that even the solid ingredients are well integrated into the mixture.

It is best to make your healthy fruit drink at home as you can control the ingredients. However, you can purchase them from health food stores and supermarkets. If you do buy them instead of making them yourself be sure and always pay attention to the label of the fruit …

Healthy Diet, Healthy Teeth

Although the heading seems to state the obvious, you might find this article quite interesting as we unaware the underlying events that actually occur to our teeth when our diets become compromised. Poor plans ever accompany a decaying process to develop within the oral cavity.

Not eating properly, and following the Standard American Diet (SAD), promotes a condition within the body that usually produces a more acidic environment.

Studies show that the average person in the United States, on an annual basis, consumes approximately 2100 lbs. of acid forming foods compared to 380 lbs of alkaline forming foods. This is not an exaggerated statistic.

This unfortunate imbalance in our diets can certainly have a devastating effect on our health. It contributes to our plethora of chronic illnesses and degenerative diseases.

What's happening to our teeth during this process? A review of literature by Ralph Steinman, DDS, Loma Linda University, shows that the metabolism of teeth, and the overall oral cavity, are extensions of the overall metabolism of the human body.

The occurrence of tooth decay, abscessed teeth, and even dental sensitivities are not primarily due to external contamination of the teeth through acid producing foods and bacteria. These deteriorating conditions occurs from the internal effects of our bodies' acidic environment. The acidic environment produces a change in the internal action of the fluids flowing within the teeth.

Teeth are not solid. They consist of a series of dentin tubules and parallel enamel rods. In a healthy situation, fluids from within the tooth travel from the inside-out, that is, through the dentin, through the enamel and into the mouth. This is thought to be a self-cleaning mechanism. This constant flushing of the tooth structure prevails the movement of microbes into the tooth and the destructive effects of acids formed by foods.

Major problems occur when hormonal imbalances, circulatory problems, or poor diet lead to a reverse fluid flow within the dentin tubules. A reverse flow "sucks" bacteria, acids, and other substances from the mouth or surrounding periodontium back into the tooth. Reverse fluid flow triggers a compromised condition otherwise known as decay, infection, or simply tooth pain.

As part of the decaying process, Dr. Steinman identified the early loss of magnesium, copper, iron and manganese. These minerals are all active in cellular oxidation. They're necessary for the energy production that allows the cleansing flow through the dentin tubules. He also notes that the addition of copper, iron, and manganese to the decay producing diet almost abolished the decay rate.

Once again, I refer back to the importance of a healthy diet to bail us out of these "sticky" situations. Remember to balance your body chemistry by eating properly. Nutritional supplements in your diet may provide optimal results.

In our office, we measure saliva pH as an indicator of dental health as well as the body's overall wellness. We check the saliva pH every 6 months when our patients visit us for their scheduled cleaning appointment. A pH reading of 7.0 (neutral) …

Body Cleanse & Detox – What Are the Benefits?

You might have heard about detox and thought it could have been a good opportunity for you to get healthy, but you might not fully understand the benefits of a body cleanse, or detox.

The reality is that giving your body a chance to refresh itself is beneficial not only in a perfect way, but in a much more meaningful way. You can legally benefit your overall health and living if you learn to give your body a whole body cleanse now and then.

What is a cleanse, or detox?

A cleanse is really nothing more than some system you engage in wherey you flush the body of toxins and other components that drag, or weigh, it down. You take in a number of toxins, through the food you eat and the lifestyle you engage in as well as naturally through the environment. All of these components clog up your system, dulling your skin and hair, depleting you of energy and inviting illness and disease.

A program of detox flushes the body of these impurities and helps the body to run fresh again, almost as if it's new to the world and without yet any build-up. The detox can help to flush out all the impurities and make things run like new again.

There are many different kinds of detox programs. You can simply enjoy a fast of sorts where you eat and drink only vegetables and fruits for a week or more. You might drink only water for one day each week. You might buy a product that's designed to give you a full detox, and that will also restore the vitamin and mineral balance in the body.

How can a body cleanse help you?

A body cleanse can do much more than just revitalize the body, though that is one main benefit.

Technically speaking, a good cleanse will stimulate the liver to flush out toxins that before it was not flushing naturally. This alone can immensely benefit your health. So many things flow from the health of the liver, so making sure your liver is healthy and operating well is essential.

A cleanse, or detox can also improve the blood's circulation and give the body healthy nutrients. If you buy a body cleanse product, it will likely contain minerals, vitamins and fiber, all of which will help refresh your body and make it operate in a healthy fashion.

If you engage in a detox through fasting (like that found with water fast, or by taking in overly fruit and vegetable juices for a few days) you might find that your organs get a rest, which leads to better digestion and more energy for you .

In short, a detox can give your body the essential elements it needs to rejuvenate and operate better for you. …
